Glass Bottle MOQ, Mold Fees & Pricing

A practical guide for beauty brands sourcing cosmetic glass packaging from factories-covering the 3 questions buyers ask most.

6 min read Updated Aug 2026
Many overseas beauty brands reach out with the same three questions when sourcing cosmetic glass bottles: What's the MOQ? What does custom tooling cost? And how is the quote structured? First-time factory communication often suffers from information gaps that slow down the entire project. We've compiled the most frequently asked questions from international buyers into one clear, actionable guide-so you can evaluate your packaging plan faster.
Section 01

Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)

Stock Mold Bottles (Standard/Off-the-Shelf) Low MOQ

For standard essential oil bottles, dropper bottles, and perfume bottles using our existing molds, MOQs are relatively low. We support small trial orders for regular designs. However, MOQ increases for special sizes or bottles requiring deep processing such as frosting or hot stamping.

Custom / Private Mold Bottles Higher MOQ

New exclusive designs require fresh mold development. Due to glass furnace production constraints, the minimum order for private mold bottles is significantly higher than stock molds. Confirm production capacity and order volume with us before opening the mold to avoid capacity mismatches.

Pro tip: MOQ varies by capacity, wall thickness, and bottle shape. Send us your drawing or reference sample for an exact requirement.

Mold Fee Breakdown

Mold Type Fee Structure Ownership
Stock Mold No mold fee. Available to all buyers. Shared-no exclusivity.
Private Mold Buyer bears full tooling cost. Typically transfers to buyer upon full payment.
Minor Modification Modification fee assessed based on scope. Depends on agreement.

Private Mold Details

  • Ownership: By standard agreement, the mold belongs to the buyer once the tooling fee is paid in full.
  • Lifespan: Glass bottle molds wear down normally. After reaching their usage cycle, repair or re-tooling costs apply for future production runs.
  • Refund Policy: On projects that hit specific order volume thresholds, mold fees may be refundable-terms are defined in the contract.
  • Minor Tweaks: Small adjustments to existing bottle shapes (e.g., neck finish, base logo) may incur a modification fee depending on complexity.

Key Pricing Questions

Quote Currency & Trade Terms

Default: FOB port pricing. Optional: EXW factory pricing available on request. Quoted in USD. Standard quotes are valid for 30 days. Prices are subject to re-evaluation after expiry due to fluctuations in raw materials (soda ash) and energy costs.

What's Included in the Base Price?

The base quote covers the bare glass bottle only. All post-processing and accessories are priced separately:

  • Frosting / matte finish
  • Silk screen printing
  • Hot stamping / foil stamping
  • Spray coating / painting
  • Electroplating
  • Caps, droppers, and inner plugs

Sample Costs

Stock samples: Sample fee charged, refundable upon confirmed bulk order (per agreement). Custom prototypes: A hand prototype is required to confirm the appearance before mold opening; hand sample fees are billed separately.

Economies of scale apply: Higher volumes significantly reduce per-unit production costs. Core factors include order quantity, glass wall thickness, bottle capacity, surface decoration processes, and packaging requirements.
Section 04
